What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into various parts of the body at ‘acupuncture points’. It originally began as a Chinese medicinal practice, and it is now used widely across the world. Acupuncture is often used to help with a specific health complaint, such as chronic pain or headaches. It can also be used to help with general relaxation and wellbeing.

In traditional medicine, acupuncture was thought to stimulate energy and fix blockages in the body. There are now more scientific explanations for its benefits as well. Stimulating sensory nerves will produce endorphins, the body’s natural pain relief and ‘feel good’ hormones. The body is a complex system, and everyone will feel different benefits from acupuncture.

Many clients have one main question before an appointment: does acupuncture hurt? The good news is that acupuncture shouldn’t hurt, and if it does this isn’t normal so your acupuncturist will be able to take steps to stop it! The needles used are incredibly fine, so the most you should feel is a light, sharp sensation for a very brief time. If a needle is placed on a nerve, you may feel a tingling sensation that quickly subsides – don’t be alarmed, this is perfectly normal. Your acupuncturist will be able to talk you through the different sensations you can experience in different parts of the body so that you know what to expect.

WHAT IS FACIAL ENHANCEMENT ACUPUNCTURE (FEA)

FEA, also known as cosmetic acupuncture, is a holistic treatment utilising acupuncture points to improve skin elasticity.

Skin needling stimulates collagen and elastin production which will improve muscle tone and increase circulation. Not only focusing on fine lines and wrinkles this treatment also targets lifting the face particularly around the jowls and cheek areas.

This treatment aims to revitalise you on the outside and balance the inside too – leading to greater wellbeing and skin rejuvenation. A course of 10 treatments is recommended at weekly intervals for best results. followed by regular 1 month to 6 weekly maintenance treatments.
